The Go-Everywhere, Do-Everything Card

Most checkbooks can only do one thing — checking. Our Fort Bragg Federal Credit Union Check Card does this and much more. Our Fort Bragg Federal Credit Union's Check Card gives you a faster more economical, more convenient way to buy the products and services you need. That's because it allows you to withdraw funds from your checking account without ever having to write out a check. You can purchase groceries, gas, or anything else wherever Visa debit cards are accepted. With the Our Fort Bragg Federal Credit Union Check Card, every purchase is as simple as using a credit card.

When you receive your Fort Bragg Federal Credit Union Check Card, you'll also select a personal identification number (PIN). It's added security against someone making transactions without your consent. And, as an added safeguard, we provide a cap on your liability if your card is lost or stolen. Every month in which a transaction is completed, you'll receive on your statement, the date, location and amount of every transaction you've made. Our card goes beyond conventional checking.

Debit Card Withdrawal Limits

Fort Bragg Federal Credit Union’s transaction limit for our VISA Debit Card “credit”(signature - without PIN) transactions is $3,000 per day and the “debit” (PIN) transaction limit is $500 per day. This limit is per debit card number.  For example, if you and your joint account holder have two separate debit cards, with different card numbers, you each would have these amounts available on your account, daily.

How do I change the limit on my debit card?

Debit card spending limits are set to minimize your liability against fraudulent spending. However, sometimes you may want to increase your debit card spending limit for an upcoming holiday or event.

If you plan to make a purchase or need to make a withdrawal in excess of your debit card daily spending limit, there are steps you can take to change the limit on your debit card.

  1. Contact your debit card provider to explain your situation

  2. Request a spending limit increase

At Fort Bragg Federal Credit Union, we work with our members on a case-by-case basis to accommodate debit card limit increases.

Attention Visa Debit & Credit Cardholders: We may be calling you.

To protect your account, we monitor your credit and debit card transactions for potentially fraudulent activity which may include a sudden change in locale (such as when a U.S. issued card is used unexpectedly overseas), a sudden string of costly purchases, or any pattern associated with new fraud trends around the world. Should you receive a phone call and your caller ID shows 877-253-8964, it is our card processor fraud monitoring service that calls about suspicious VISA transactions. These calls are valid. It is a service of the credit union to help control fraud and it is all right for you to discuss/confirm VISA activity. Of course, should you have any questions, you can always contact Fort Bragg Federal Credit Union during business hours.

If we suspect fraudulent credit, debit, or prepaid card use, we’ll be calling you to validate the legitimacy of your transactions. Your participation in responding to our call is critical to prevent potential risk and avoid restrictions we may place on the use of your card.

  • Our automated call will ask you to verify recent transaction activity on your card.

  • You’ll be able to respond via your touch tone keypad.

  • You’ll also be provided with a toll-free number to call should you have additional questions.

Our goal, quite simply, is to minimize your exposure to risk and the impact of any fraud. To ensure we can continue to reach you whenever potential fraud is detected, please keep us informed of your correct phone number and address at all times. In the meantime, please be diligent in monitoring transaction activity on your account and contact us immediately if you identify any fraudulent transactions. EMV Chip Technology

  • What is EMV Chip Technology?

EMV chips are small computer microchips embedded in to a credit or debit card. These chips are encrypted and make it much more difficult for fraudsters to steal your information at stores when you make purchases.
  • How Does It Work?

The computer chip generates a unique code for each purchase which makes it more secure than the traditional magnetic stripe on the back of the card which has the same code for every transaction. This additional security only works when you insert your card into a chip-enabled terminal. It cannot generate the unique codes when your card is used to make purchases online or is swiped instead of inserted at a store terminal.
To use this new technology, you insert the EMV Chip Card into the card-reader and follow onscreen instructions until the purchase is complete. Don't remove your card until the machine tells you to do so. Your new cards will still have the traditional magnetic stripe on the back, allowing you to use it at merchants that don't have chip-enabled terminals.
  • What Does EMV Stand For?

EMV stands for Europay, MasterCard, and Visa. It has become the standard for credit and debit cards in most industrialized countries including Canada and France.
  • What Does This Mean For My Fort Bragg Federal Credit Union Cards?

Your credit and debit cards are going to have a new look and a new number. If you previously shared a card number with a family member, you will each get a new card with a new number. When you receive your new chip card, your card number will change.
If you have recurring transactions, such as an automatic bill charged to your current card number, you will need to update the card information on file with the billing companies once you receive your new EMV card.

This also means that if you have your account set up to automatically make payments to your Fort Bragg Federal Credit Union credit card, using your non-EMV card number, you will need to update that information as well.
  • Where Can I Use My New EMV Card?

You will be able to use your card at the same places you've been shopping but now the process may be slightly different. Instead of swiping your card at the register, you may be asked to insert the card instead. Your chip card will also make traveling easier and more convenient because chip cards are so widely accepted. Most merchants in other countries use chip-enabled terminals that work with your new card. Some bars, restaurants, and other store merchants do not have chip-enabled machines so you may have to swipe your card the same way you did before. However, we strongly encourage you to use chip-enabled machines whenever possible.
  • What About Transactions Online Or On The Phone?

Nothing has changed for transactions made online or by telephone. You'll make payments just as you do with a card that doesn't have a chip.
  • Will I Still Have to Sign or Enter a PIN When I Use My Card?

Just like with any other debit or credit card transaction, you will be prompted to enter a PIN if needed or you may be asked for a signature. Simply keep your EMV card inside the payment terminal and follow the prompts. If you are asked to input your PIN, enter the 4-digit number and press “Enter.” As always when entering your PIN, keep your number private and do not allow anyone else to see it.
  • Will My EMV Card Work at a Retailer That Does Not Have A Chip Reader?

If you are shopping with a retailer that has not yet made the change, you can still pay with your card. Your chip card also has a magnetic stripe, so you can swipe your card to make a payment.
  • Will I Be Able to Use My EMV Card When Traveling Outside the Country?

Many American cards with chips will work with self-serve machines in Europe but you may still have to find a cashier to have your card processed automatically in some cases. Additionally, some retailers will still have American customers sign when using their chip cards. In other parts of the world, chip technology access varies.
Check out our list of “off limits” countries for debit and credit card prior to travel. Remember to always bring cash and a backup form of payment when traveling.
