Who qualifies?
  • Active duty Army stationed at Fort Bragg

  • FBFCU primary account holder (you can join during this process)

  • Eligible for BAH and able to provide required documentation (proof of station, BAH, lease or property, and ID)

How to enroll:
  • Join FBFCU or confirm your membership (fees apply)

  • Submit required documentation to UDWP@FortBraggFCU.org

  • A team member will contact you within 24 business hours to finalize your request

Already in UDWP and need to out-process?
  1. Contact your utility company for a final estimated bill and pay it

  1. We’ll confirm payment with the utility (or you can email proof to udwp@FortBraggFCU.org)

  2. Visit any FBFCU branch for final processing and your out-processing stamp

Not in UDWP and need to out-process?
  • If your out-processing form has an electronic stamp, you’re already cleared

  • If not, stop by any FBFCU branch for quick verification and stamping

Questions? Email UDWP@FortBraggFCU.org or visit any FBFCU branch.

Prepare Yourself for Deployment

Deployment can bring major financial and legal challenges. Taking time to prepare now can make the transition much smoother for you and your family. Here are some key steps to consider:

  • Update legal and financial documents. Review wills, medical directives, and powers of attorney. Ensure trusted family members can access important accounts and records.
  • Create or update your Will. This is especially important if you have minor children or own real estate.
  • Keep emergency data current. Make sure your personnel file is up to date and maintain a full copy for yourself.
  • Set up a Power of Attorney. Consider one that only takes effect when you deploy, allowing someone you trust to manage your affairs.
  • Organize your finances. List assets, liabilities, income, and expenses to give your family a clear picture.
  • Create a family emergency plan. Open a savings account for unexpected expenses and discuss how you’ll stay in touch if an emergency arises.

Transitioning Out of the Military

Leaving the military is a major life change — but with the right plan, you can make the shift to civilian life smoother and more rewarding.

1. Use Your Benefits and Support

Take advantage of transition programs on base, like Fort Bragg’s Transition Center, to create an individualized plan, access workshops, and learn about your benefits. Online resources can also guide you through every step.

2. Get Your Finances in Order
  • Build an emergency fund – Aim for at least six months of expenses.
  • Choose a financial partner – Credit unions like FBFCU may offer lower fees and better rates than banks.
  • Budget for civilian life – Expenses may be higher without military benefits.
  • Save for retirement – Consider a Thrift Savings Plan or other options.
  • Pay down debt – Reduce monthly bills and improve your credit.
  • Secure insurance – Make sure you have health and other coverage.
3. Plan Your Next Home

If relocating, find out if your move is covered by the military. Veterans may qualify for VA mortgages with favorable terms. FBFCU can help guide you through your home loan options.

4. Focus on Family

Include your spouse, children, or loved ones in your transition plans. Decide together how to spend your time and build new routines.

5. Prepare for Your Career
  • Develop a career plan and translate your military skills into civilian terms.
  • Update your résumé, research jobs, and network — both online and at local job fairs.
  • Consider employers that value veterans or explore starting your own business.
6. Prioritize Your Health

Maintain fitness, eat well, reduce stress, and establish care with a doctor and dentist. Good health makes every part of the transition easier.

7. Build a Civilian Life You Love

Reconnect with old friends, make new ones, and enjoy the freedom to create your own schedule and social life.

Bottom line: Transitioning out of the military takes planning, but you’re not alone. Fort Bragg Federal Credit Union is here to support you with personalized financial services during and after your service. Contact us with any questions.
